Awards

The purpose of the Ottawa Zone for Mathematics Education Awards is to formally recognize individuals and educators who demonstrate an outstanding contribution to mathematics education in the Ottawa Zone.

The successful candidate of each award fosters enthusiasm, innovation and growth in Mathematics Education. If you know someone who qualifies for this honour, please nominate her/him/them for one of the following awards.The deadline for award nominations is June 30th. Awards will be presented at the Ottawa Zone Fall Social.

Send your completed nomination form(s) by email, with supporting documents to: o34memembership@oame.on.ca. Nomination forms for each award can be downloaded below. All documentation supporting a nomination should align to the OAME (here) and O​34ME’s Vision (here) for mathematics and teaching and learning.

O34ME Life Membership Award recognizes an educator who has contributed in a significant way to the O34ME chapter, demonstrates outstanding leadership in mathematics education, and has accumulated 10 or more years of membership in OAME/AOEM. Nominator and Nominee (could be former) must be an OAME member.

Past Recipients
O34ME Exceptional and Creative Teaching in Mathematics recognizes an exceptional and creative mathematics educator who demonstrates excellence in mathematics education and contributes to the overall development of students in the Ottawa Zone (Elementary or Secondary). Nominee does not necessarily have to be an OAME member - nominator does.

O34ME Exceptional and Collaborative Mathematics Teaching recognizes a group or team of educators who foster collaborative and excellent mathematics teaching, contribute to the overall development of student learning of mathematics, and demonstrate an overall leadership within the Ottawa Zone mathematics community (Elementary or Secondary). Nominee does not necessarily have to be an OAME member - nominator does.

  • Team: Stephanie Bishop, Marnie Penney, Emily Wagner, Talia Hunter, Nik Cotter, Lisa Goodyear, Krista Reade, Kirsten Beyers, Ann Chevrier, Dianne Dreef, and Idil Abdulkadir
    • Developed strong relationships with colleagues across the district
    • Offering weekly PD sessions, professional learning sessions (Coding, in partnership with OCSB)
    • Creating supports for de-streamed Grade 9 math, as well as a scope-and-sequence for Grades 1 to 8
    • Deeply involved with the Mathematics community--collaborating with educators and other districts in #onted, facilitating teacher learning through P/J Math AQs (in partnership with uOttawa), and communicating regularly with parents
O34ME Leadership Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated leadership by contributing in a significant way to the development and enhancement of mathematics education in the Ottawa Zone through innovation and/or research related activities. Nominator and Nominee must be OAME members.

Outstanding Contribution to O34ME and Mathematics Education in The Ottawa Zone Award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to O34ME and contributed directly or indirectly to the improvement of mathematics education in The Ottawa Zone but who is not necessarily an educator or a member of OAME/AOEM. Nominee does not necessarily have to be an OAME member - nominator does.
